SECTION 184

American Indians or Alaska Natives who are members of a federally recognized tribes can get into a home with a 
low-down payment and flexible underwriting. Section 184 loans can be used, both on and off native lands, for new construction, rehabilitation, purchase of an existing home, or refinance.


Down payment assistance


Community action - Coverage Area: This program covers residents of the following counties: Rogers County, OK, Mayes County, OK, Nowata County, OK, Tulsa County, OK, Wagoner County, OK and Washington County, OK.  The current maximum assistance available is 5% of the purchase price with a maximum of $5,000.  
  • Applicants must meet the income guidelines as set by HUD.
  • Applicants must be a first-time home buyer.
  • Must be able to secure a home mortgage.
The Mortgage Assistance Program (MAP) helps eligible Cherokee Nation citizens become homeowners by providing up to $20,000 in down payment assistance and individualized credit coaching to assist families with building or repairing credit and reaching personal financial goals. Down payment assistance may be used to purchase an existing home or construct a new one.
